NEWS

August 2023 - 46th BINGE RECAP

After a complete summer of rain and crap weather it was nice to go to the Binge and see all the Bingers again. The weather at Otter Creek wasn't too bad. It did rain overnight on Saturday but Thursday and Friday were nice days! The creek itself was way to flooded to even sit and sunbathe, so we stay at camp and enjoyed some great music and food. Thank you Coolidge for bringing so many wonderful fresh clams!
So we had a special guest this year. A returning Binger afer 25 years! YO BOB! He brought some great wings and Friday night was one of the best Binge nights ever!
A major toast could be heard many times for the infamous Dr.Moist who recently passed in 2022. RIP Dr. Moist we certainly miss you.
Golf was played on Friday. Was Heady and Busa against the rest of crew, you can imagine the outcome! Was fun though! Was a nice day at Turin golf course which recently changed ownership.
So Stroker outdid himself this year with an incredible show (see photos). Sure is fun going to the Binge!!

August 2022 - 45th BINGE RECAP

So the 45th Binge was held with no fan fare, except for the fact that the weather completely cooperated! No rain whatsoever for the first time in recent memory. Didn't even bring a tarp!
So golf was played on Friday after a nice Thursday Growler night. We were at Brantingham this year
and of course Heady won again. Nice day though and of course Heady left right after dinner again!
Some great food was prepared by Boe and Jerry. A very special THANK YOU to Coolidge for the enormous amount of fresh clams he brought!
Stroker came threw with a great display of entertainment.
Special note: First time Binger-Johnny had a great time! Pseudo tried his hand at air-guitar, wasn't much of an audience.

August 2021 - 44th BINGE RECAP

Well after the COVID-19 year, the majority of Bingers reappeared this year! A great time was had by all. Donny showed up with his portable "hotel" and Boe and Semi parked thier popups right next to each other which worked out well. a great golf outing was held on Friday with the winning team of Semi, Heady and Rich Coots came in at 6 under par. Incredible!
We had some great music that Tommy gratefully prepared and Ashley played well also. Thanks you Coolidge for the Clams...SOOO GOOD! and of course Stroker for lighting up the sky. PHOTOS

August 2020 - 43rd BINGE RECAP

As expected, Otter Creek Binge 43 was indeed one of the strangest, marked by low attendance due to Covid-19 concerns. The head count was 14, and many long-time bingers were missed. Unsurprisingly, that did not stop the rest from righteous bingeing. The weather was quite possibly the best of any binge. There was absolutely no rain all weekend. It was 85 in the day and 60 at night. The skies were clear and sunny all day, and a bowl full of stars at night for all three days and Sunday. No, seriously. We secured the lower left two developed sites early Thursday, which proved to be plenty of space to spread out. Donnie got us major firewood that lasted all weekend, although his promise of binge masks proved to be fake news. Swimming in the creek was requisite, and golf was had on Friday, with Heady’s team winning. Several explosions were heard late Friday and Saturday, and a log was seen to fly above the tree line....I really don’t need to mention any names here. The First to Puke trophy has a new owner. All in all, another great binge. You bastards better be there next year...You know who you are. Signing off from Binge 43…..

August 2019 - 42nd BINGE RECAP

Binge 42, August 2019. Total headcount was 24 at this years binge, as the attached photo of the sign in sheet was before Craigie signed in. Sites were secured by Myself Thomas and Shaw on Thursday morning around 7:30. We ended up with the three good sites with the help of our friendly DEC ranger, who kicked off the wednesday squatters after a short but ultimately productive discussion. Some golf was played on thursday. Tom Corrigan was back in full binge kitchen mode, complete with exam gloves and cooked up a storm all three days. MANY thanks to Tom for doing, like, everything, and providing excellent food throughout the binge. It rained every day in the afternoon, but never for very long. Nights were mostly rain-free.
Bingers camped below the falls during the day, and congregated at the top site. Stroke fired off some homemade rockets in the parking lot with mixed results. Semi stayed injury free, but took out a small table in a first round KO. feel free to add to this.

Marcus

OH...lets add to this....obviously after 5 martinis, you don't worry about the weather....Nights were mostly rain-free? ..Are you FUCKIN KIDDING ME?. ..it POURED 3 NIGHTS,,,thank GOD for the tarps!...oh and SOME GOLF was played! ....the two teams ,,shot 65 and 63...thats 8 under par...GREAT GOLF was played at. ..by both teams!.. at Brantingham

August 2018 - 41st BINGE RECAP

So what site we getting this year? Usually our earlier arrivers get the prime site, but they had some truck troubles and did not arrive early. Jerry and Psuedo Jerry arrived in a H-HAUL!!!!..that's a first! But, Donny got there early and captured Site 6 and set up his mobile HOTEL camper. Ridiculous for a Binger, but guess we are getting old.
As bingers arrived we managed to fill in all the rest of the sites. Shaw, Tim and Stroke were down the road and Steve M and Dave M didn't arrive until Saturday! Boe and Gioia arrived and with some help set up the pop-up on Site 6. Tommy usually sets up the kitchen there too, but not this year. So Donny and Boe had to cook for the bingers this year. Ron brought a really nice brisket! THANK YOU! and of course everyone chipped in with what they brought...Hot dogs..hamburgers..etc.
Craigie decided to park his pickup on site 6 also, so it was nice and cozy.

Thursday ..Growler night went pretty well. Bingers brought a nice variety and it was thankfully embibed.
Friday... We had a nice day of golf with special guest, DR. MOIST!.... With the weather Gods cooperating, many Bingers decided to just hang out at the creek...so nice...
Saturday was a great day. We had a special guest for some entertainment. Tommy set up his equipment and was joined by Ashley DeCarr! Voice of an angel. Newbee..Jonesy (ZXZ bro and recent grad), who is a singer in a local band, also joined and and we had some amazing sounds that took us well into the night.

August 2017 - 40th BINGE RECAP

Yes...it was the 40th BINGE...and surprisingly the weather cooperated. I guess the Binge Gods showed some mercy on us!. The new campsites are working out. Some moron with a huge camper set up on site 6 where we normally are, but Tommy got one in the middle which worked out very well. There seemed to be more room for his kitchen and a BIG THANK YOU to him for his unrelenting service. Donny and Boe had campers right next to each other which worked well and the main site was cozy. Bingers took up all the rest of the sites.

Thursday night's Growler extravaganza featured many a good brew! People sampled different ones and soon people didn't care what they were drinking. The cigars were lit up and a great evening was had.

No Golf was played on this treasured weekend. We simply decided to just sit and BINGE ALL DAY Friday. Semi said he was recovering from an injury. Okkkkkk....groin strain. Hope Karen is ok. OH maybe it was all the "dancing" he did with everyone on Growler Thursday? We'll never know.

With the weather so cooperative, the Creek was the place to be. Basking in the sunshine and Binging away! Craigie tried out his Kilt and made a new fashion statement! Tim was very proud of him and Boe performed some special air-guitar for Craigie's initative! Flirtin with Disaster seemed appropriate! Of course a few hours later, he crashed but his kilt kept him warm! Such good times!

So of course Stroker had to put on something for the 40th and presented a really nice show! Nothing atomic...but very enjoyable! MANY THANKS! And thanks to Dave Motta we have some photos to share and remember with. Oh..yes...Stevie still has the First to Puke trophy!

BINGE ON!

August 2016 - 39th BINGE RECAP

The second year of new campsites at the OCB turned out to be more than OK. Yes we no longer can camp a few yards away from the great Otter Creek, but there some benefits to the new sites! First, the fact that we have new sites is applaud able. Thank you DEC. They do have decent outhouses now also!

So the 39th Binge started off with a Growler Thursday night extravagancer. Some good IPAs and Beers and ales were sampled and things got blurry quickly. Semi did a face plant into a table after tripping over a line to hold up the tarp, so that was quickly removed and he was attended to. Some vintage Binge shirts were showed off too. Some matching 1992 versions and 2001 shirts were in full display.

Friday was an exciting day for golfers. Heady, Semi and Stroke, took on Busa, Hooks and Gioia and some REALLY good golf was played. This was at a relatively new course that we found now just north of Lowville and is a pretty good deal. Anyway, the match was very tight and came down to the last hole. Both teams had about 20 footers for birdies and the lucky Tim Head… sank his……GREAT STROKE! For the win. Getting back to camp found the food and beer flowing and that wonderful Otter Creek to cool off in. Bingers hung around the lower falls just past the bridge so we could BBQ and BINGE AWAY.

Meanwhile back at the mainsite, Craigie and Donny were mixing the CRUISE and did a very fine job. Just ask Ronnie. An amazing exhibition of cruising was demonstrated. At least 12 hours and he is now considered the World Champion Cruiser. Of course Criagie had to darn the CAUTION outfit to make sure the making of cruise was not interrupted, with the exception of playing Dark Side of The Moon…once again….and again….and again…and again. Gawd…didn’t think I’d ever get tired of that.

Saturday saw a nice pile of beer cans develop just to see how many we could throw on the ground. Turned out to be ummmmmmm...a lot. So of course Mr. Corrigan out did himself with the food and music once again. Many thanks to him and Marcus and Jameson. Many thanks to Stroke for his efforts also. Are we expecting something special for the 40th? ..Only the Skull of Doom knows! Lets hope we can come up with a better game than Firelog Jinga. Can get pretty warm for that. what ever happened to Horseshoes?

BINGE ON…

August 2015 - 38th BINGE RECAP

OK………so not just another BINGE was held, but this one was a new beginning! With the major changes the DEC has implemented at our sacred binge sites, we had to adapt to a new environment. Yes, the DEC has closed down any overnight camping at the traditional sites at Otter Creek. They did develop new sites though and that we can be thankful for. Without them we’d be up a creek without a beer!

Anyway, the new sites are over the bridge and up the road a bit on the left side. When Gioia and I first arrived we were wondering what we were going to do, but it turned out pretty good. Of course as soon as we pulled in, the skys opened up with a tremendous downpour. So we waited and had a beer before setting up the camper. We were at site 6? Last one up the hill and seems this will be the main campsite in the future. Tommy came up early and captured it for us and reserved our spot…THANK YOU THOMAS…and Bingers had already started celebrating. Donny, Cragie, Semi, Jerry and Psuedo Jerry and Tim Irwin were all there already. Tim Irwin set up a real nice bar, cigars and beers were passed out and a lot of laughter in the rain was heard. So on came Thursday night and you know what that means. GROWLER NIGHT kicked in. Some really good beers were sampled and even some Honey Mead was sipped! Dr. Marcal issued a challenge to Boe. Whose ever sugar was higher…has to drink! (Both being diabetic) They tested….Boe 185…Stevie..186….ha ha!........ .close one!........Drink Stevie! Great music and endless food thanks to Tommy as all had a great evening which went into the wee hours. Now these new sites are pretty cool. Most have their own outhouse! The firepits are somewhat small in Binge Standards but we managed to cook and grill and have a good time around the fire.

So Friday came and Semi was not golfing due to injury, so he went down to the creek early to capture the area to the right of the bridge. The DEC has created a picnic area there with a grill and picnic table! It was hard to see that our sacred site 5 was a parking lot though. I stood there awhile looking around remembering all the wonderful nights and times that were had there. The picnic area set up is nice though and a beautiful part of the creek to just BINGE away the day. The only golfers were Boe and Hooks. Boe wanted to investigate a new course just north of Lowville and it turned out to be GREAT! Nice course 18 holes, a cart and lunch for $25! The future is here my fellow Bingers plan on this.

So Friday FOOD FEAST night comes and Tommy cooks up a storm. Incredible food and sandwiches, chicken, pulled pork and much more. Always a great job by Chef Corrigan, but later on is where one of the most incredible shows in recent memory was put on by Corrigan and his side kick – Marcus! What a night of music! The “light” show was incredible too! Lasers in the canopy when you’ve been BINGING for hours is something to experience! BRAVO! BRAVO! To Tommy and Marcus. Incredible show. Lets not forget the little DISPLAY that Stroker put on that weekend also. VERY NICE celebration after a few years of very quiet Friday nights. He lit the sky up pretty damn good! THANK YOU! Saturday the fun continued with more of the same. Great Music, FOOD, BEER and DRINK…just can’t beat ….THE BINGE……

August 2014 - 37th BINGE RECAP

So BINGE 37 started off with Tom and Jerry (haha)..securing the sites...as usual. Ok so Tom Corrigan secured the beach (site 1) at 8am, but no set UP until 11. Jerry and Psuedo Jerry (Jeff) secured sites 3 and 4 and found a mess at site 3. They DID do a preemptive strike on the po po..with a proof of "we didn't do this" video(see below) and also this was the first binge where a binger (albeit a floater "Floater Mark") called the DEC on ourselves to reclaim site 5!! Successfully I may add, as"Ranger Bob?" just came back from sick time, his welcome back was floater Mark. Seems some dude joined Mark at site 5 and when Mark told him...the site was taken...he was like..."too bad"...so Mark called the Ranger! HAHAHA!..way to go Mark...the ranger actually came and through the dude off! OK here is the link to the proof we didn't do it video...
click here for Tommy's video Outside of paddling twice on the black river and playing some tunes, eating some food and drinking a shit load of Jameson I don't remember much.
-Tommy

yes...yes...another Binge and a fine one it was! The Thursday night tradition of "Growler Night" ..continued...with many a good brew consumed and treasured. Stevie still holds the first to puke trophy. Golf on Friday was way down at Alder Creek because Semi wanted it that way! Mike and Heady vs the Albany Boys (Boe, Gioia and Motta) came out to be pretty even! A tie!...a rare occasion!
Saturday saw many bingers relaxing in the nice sunshine. Another rare event so it was decided to have a "belly flop" contest. Semi, Craigie and psuedo Jerry were the brave ones to try. Have to say Psuedo's perfect swan dive was remarkable! He came out pretty red!
Of course the MUSIC was great at night thanks to Tom and Markus. But we also had a special guest! Ashley!...Donny's daughter was camping at Whetstone and stopped by to do a few tunes ..warming up for Tommy's performance. She was FABULOUS and we thank her!

A NEW Binger was acclimated into the community. This is Chisholm..Mark that is! Gioia's guest! He finally found our location late at night and heard him on the phone to Mike saying "well if this road isn't it...don't know where I am"...HAHA...he made it! On Saturday, we were on the rocks doing a nice "Cruise" with some heavy Capt Morgan and he asked me.. "what is that you are drinking?"..so I introduced him to the Cruise and he said "gee..you guys should put some booze in here"...I laughed and said...Sure...keep drinking it! ummm..Mark didn't make it to dinner that night until like 8pm....hahahaha! Rookies...
anyway....the letter this year was read by none other than Sneaky Pete! he did a great job! The food was excellent as ever..Tommy brought some good stuff premade and Boe did the jambalya and some good sauage and peppers. Tim Irwin - the "hot dog King" brought and cooked some great dogs.

August 2013 - 36th BINGE RECAP

OK...so the Ranger lied....not unusual...knowing that they try to discourage tax paying Bingers from camping at Otter Creek..last year he told us Site 5 would be shut down to overnight camping...it wasn't...Thanks to Jerry, he captured sites 3 and 4 and Tommy and Motta got sites 1 and 2 respectively...BUT..some people with a circus tent got site 5.....they were there on TUESDAY they said!...where's the freakin Ranger????...tell me his is not prejudicial against Bingers!.....

Anyway.... WE STILL HAD A GREAT TIME!....Site 1 was the main campsite with Donny, Tommy and Boe setting up Food and the Fire Pit.....The falls were great this year...nice flow and not too cold either! Thursday saw a new tradition starting with "Growler Night"...a number of Bingers brought a growler of some type of microbrew and everyone shared. Ummmmm...Stevie managed to share a bit too much, winning the "first to puke" trophy this year. To his credit...he came right back and survived til 1am!

Friday ..golfers were skeptical of the weather, but we went anyway to our old stomping grounds...Alder Creek...It was the Albany boys vs Utica/Rochester (Semi & Heady)..and what a match it was. Some great golf played with the Albany boys coming out on top -3 to -2 ...a real team effort by Gioia, Motta and Boe. Heady, of course played incredible, but it just wasn't enough. The Albany boys birdied the last two holes to take it. Back to camp and many Bingers hung out at the rocks along with Semi and his "whiskey tea"....that got him to bed nice and early..don't think he made it past 11pm. Friday night saw some great food and music. Thank you Tommy for your wonderful cooking skills!

Saturday was a GREAT day....sunshine and good times....a great horseshoe tourney ended up with Heady and Boe being undefeated! Craigie was in great form...just ask Donny...one of his throws was the highest horseshoe ever thrown..HAHA!..Saturday night was topped off with some incredible food...Boe's famous Jambalya and fire roasted chicken and then Tommy and Marcus got the instruments out and really gave a great show! What a great time! The Bingers also welcomed a newbee... Bob..Donny's friend and neighbor. He was impressed. So we all thank the Binge Gods and the Skull of Doom for watching over us and making another Binge a success!

August 2012 - 35th Anniversary BINGE RECAP

Well, we made it to the 35th! Another amazing few days at the Binge. Of course, the weather did not cooperate and rained as soon as Gioia and I pulled in. We waited it out some and then set up camp. We were at the sacred site 5, probably for the last time. To welcome us, Shaw, Jerry and Psuedo Jerry and other early birds. Many thanks to Jerry for once again capturing the infamous site 5. So the rain continued into Friday and cancelled the golf tourney. But that did not discourage our fellow Bingers. Many showed up and we had a canopy city to party under. Boe brought his Beer Pong table and a tourney was held. The cash prize went to Motta and Jerry! ..somehow!..great comebacks. Of course the horseshoes were flying and a great time was had. Tommy once again did a great job of feeding us!

Saturday the sun actually came out and we hit the rocks early! Delicious clams and beers were flowing and we enjoyed the Binge. The show this year for the 35th was OUTSTANDING!! Thats what happens when you fund the expert. It was pretty exciting when we got back to camp. People were throwing used boxes from the show onto the fire. Don't you know as the sheriff pulled up to our site, one blew up right then. We had a lot of explainin to do..Lucy!!...Thank goodness he didn't drive down the road. The deputy exclaimed "DO YOU REALIZE WHERE WE GOT A CALL FROM?"..oh only about 6 miles away!! We got off pretty good until the next morning when the Ranger showed up. Skolled us pretty badly...even complaining about the porta-jon!! Then he suggested we have a meeting!! Semi's sweet talk got us by with just a severe warning.
He told us this site will be shut down next spring...no overnight camping on it. So guess we will have to move to Site 1. But the Binge continues!

Binge ON!

August 2011 - BINGE RECAP

An interesting Binge this year, with the park ranger going crazy with the locals, he has determined our sacred site 5 is now a parking area! He made Jerry move his camper when he first set up. So we moved to site 1 now...Its a nice site so what can we do? Got to go with the flow. The Bingers took over sites 2, 3 and 4 also! So Donny and Jerry set up their campers and we were off to BINGE! With all the changes and Semi now camping with Donny, the sacred Taj was not even set up. So new Bingers beware, bring your own tent! Speaking of NEW bingers, we welcomed the newest Binger...Jesus(ZXZ brother). His overall experience in his words... "AWESOME!"

Tommy showed up and set up a small kitchen because he had to head out on Saturday. Boe thought of a way for Bingers to cook for themselves for once!...COOK YOUR OWN STEAK!...a grill top a fork and some steaks...were very successful for Saturday night! The water and weather were very nice and we thank the BINGE GODS for letting us enjoy! One thing we learned is..beware of couples posing to be your neighbors. They just may steal your tent and chairs and prostitute themselves.

Two foursomes of Binge golfers were on hand. We played at Brantingham because there was a tournament at Turin with no golf carts available. Special guest Shawna was a good golf partner! Semi had his "hair visor" on and Heady seriously asked him..."you change your hair style?" we all fell down laughing! Great music and food and some great fun was had by all with Stroker's great show!

Binge On!

August 2010 - BINGE RECAP

An overall quiet and calm Binge was experienced this year. Surprisingly...not a single "BANG" to be heard, with the exception of distant target practice by Donny and friends. A good turn out though with all the mascots making thier appearence...the skull and hand of course and our new...skinny skeleton friend thanks to Craigie. The weather was amazingly good and a fairly dry year!

As usual, our esteamed first arriver, Jerry and Brother Psuedo and another brother Dan came too..they captured the sacred sites. Attendees filtered in and camp was set up. Many a pop-up camper this year...a sign of age I think. Even the Taj was put up rather late, with Semi sleeping in Donny's camper! So Thursday night was the best!...good food and some good entertainment and music! Tommy gets A LOT of credit for his efforts. He set up a stage and played great tunes and should be issued Sainthood for the cause.

A great Golf tourney was played on Friday, with some unknown players (Dan - Jerry's brother). It was decided that Semi, Boe and unknown Dan, would take on - Mr. Competition (Heady)..and the boys from Albany (Gioia and Motta)...the front nine was REALLY CLOSE..with Mottaman having a GREAT round!...the sides were tied going into the back nine. Alas, the cream rose to the top, with a outstanding performance by Dan, Boe and Semi...basically taking it on the 17th hole, with Heady fuming!...the best hole was the 14th?..where Dan had about a 13 footer to win...it JUST HUNG on the edge...and then dropped simliar to Tiger's Masters shot.....we all went crazy!..Heady was beside himself...so, for the first time in a long time...Heady looses!..LOL..Of course Louie and Hooks and Heady played thier marathon golf on Saturday...coming back hungry and thirsty!

Friday night was fantastic, great food and music again...but Saturday's clams on the rocks was REALLY a treat! Donny brought up a ton of clams and Boe taught Stroker how to open them raw...they were devoured. Jerry cooked up his special garlic and oil clam receipe.....just fantastic...with the sunshine...beer....ohhhhhh heaven....the Saturday evening festivties were much quieter than last year but great brotherhood and music and a good horseshoe tourney made it PERFECT. A few floaters came by and were treated well...they remember the year before and that obsurd blow out...LOL.
Sunday came too quick..and all were slow to respond. Cleaning up and packing up with a few more great stories and laughs. As we all look forward to next year's Binge....when we...."do nothing....with a fervor!"

August 2009 - BINGE RECAP

An insane Binge was had by all this year. After weeks of rain in the great northeast, the weather cleared and was perfect Binging weather. We pay tribute to the BINGE Gods for allowing us to celebrate our great tradition.

So things started on Thursday with Bingers arriving and setting up camp. Jerry, our esteamed first arriver, captured the sacred #5 campsite and tried to secure the suburbs, but was unable to. We warned the family there that there maybe a litte noise and some roudy guys around, but they basically wanted to join in...little did they know!...they turned out to be pretty good partiers though and didn't complain once. This year's Binge was a floater's paradise. There were tons of them. My guess is that fact that the weekend weather was so bad during the summer, the one weekend that was nice EVERYONE came out.

And then there was this newcomer.....Psuedo Jerry...HAHA!...Jerry's brother attended for the first time. Jerry and Jeff look very much alike and of course the opportunity was taken to abuse as many Bingers as possible, so they decided when Bingers showed up, to make believe Jeff was Jerry....it succeeded in confusing MANY a Binger and was hysterical to see some of the most confusing looks that have ever been witnessed!

Friday saw some golf and your basic laying around in the sun recouperating from the night before. Teams were thin with just 5 players so no formal contest was in place. As usual the Headman...dominated with his below par scores! Boe was too hung over to do any damage! Friday nights festivities were great! A real nice show, one of the best ever and plenty of spectators...too many for our cause!....the party went well into the night, Tommy out did himself in suppling tasty treats and good food for all...just another amazing effort by Tommy. He brought out the famous 6 battery AMP and of course..blew people away.. He had a rough night, that didn't end til 6am....he paid for it on Saturday with a multi-ass mooning on the rocks!...

Saturday was another BEAUTIFUL DAY and the Binge continued on.....fishing and eating and good tunes! The party that night was one of the best ones I can remember. An awful lot of floaters but they were good dudes. A lot of them wanted Bingewear and we sold it to them, they even wanted autographs on the shirt! I think we getting famous, thats not what we want though! The party continued with Donny breaking out the DonnyVision and watching Pink Floyd and southern rock! Sunday we all recouperated and spent some time on the rocks in the nice sun. We thought we had made it through this Binge without any Bingeries but..alas...the Stroker late Sunday afternoon...somehow decided to dive...headfirst into the 2nd falls area! Obviously, a BAD decision. He was taken to the local hospital and given some stitches!

It was a vintage Binge that will be remembered.

August 2008 - BINGE RECAP

The 31st Binge started out on a Thursday with a wet note, not too unsual, but the Otter Creek water level was! It was VERY high. Higher than this Binger has ever seen. Check out some of the pics to reassure yourself. Bingers made the best of it though, as Kramer decided he would chance it and go down the falls. Wrong decision. He ended up smashing into rocks and cracking a rib. Have to say, that took guts. Others decided that a kayak would be a better choice and navigated down the falls and beyond for a good ride. Eventually the creek subsided to a point where by Saturday, it was rideable and a good time. Of course the Stroker Salmon tried to make it upstream!..even if he had to climb the rocks.

This year, the group decided to spread out and capture many campsites, since the authorities complained that too many people were at one site last year. So we ended up taking 1, 2, 3 and 4...LOL...that will teach them! But on a rainy weekend, there wasn't too much competition! The main kitchen was down at 1 with Corrigan, Marcus and Shaw. Corrigan also brought his newest toy, the portable amp..."it runs on 6 AA batteries"...he exclaimed!...and it was FUCKING LOUD!..especially at 2:30am when your asleep in your tent and he puts it one foot way from your head!...the best blurt was when Corrigan and Marcus were going around waking everyone up with the AMP and they went to Craig's tent to wake him up...they were unsuccessful though because....HE WAS STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM!...LOL....drunk much?

We also decided to have a FRANK ZAPPA hour of music as a precurser to heavy drinking on either Thursday or Friday nights.

Well, Friday saw the golf tourney rained out....but we got a raincheck and planned to use it when we came back for the Family Binge on Labor Day. We got in two holes before the skies opened up and flooded the course.

With the spread of Bingers all over the different sites alot of mobile binging ideas submerged. Stevie decided to put his chair on top of his car, that way he would always have a chair when he drove from site to site! Other bingers, such as Hooks, didn't give a shit whose chair it was, they just took it and sat thier ass down on it FOREVER! Other chairs, just got burned..thrown in the fire....wonder if Stevie's wife knows that yet?....anyway, bingers roamed around with portable capt'cruises and music. The Saturday night fire was at camp 3, where a small fireworks display was given. There was one really big...BANG...

August 2007 - BINGE RECAP

Binge XXX
We had 16-17 bingers on Thursday, a record, and something like 33 total, and it was one short of the all time binge record. I think 34 would be a record. We had a donated case of The Captain from Dave Putney, Diageo being the first Corporate Sponsor to the Otter Creek Binge. Of course it was completely consumed... Thanks so much Mr.Poe...
Weather was great. I don’t think it rained. Some nice merchandize was available this year...We had gold Binge Security t-shirts. We had the first Binge Martini Hour on Friday. It was an unqualified success.
Also on Friday the annual golf tourney was held...Boe, Mike G. and MottaMan took on Semi, and Heady...then switched up on the back nine with Boe and Heady taking on Semi, Mike and Dave....Heady was the HOT golfer..posting a number of birdies and pars!
The pistol-packin DEC Mistress showed up on Sunday, in uniform. Told us everything was wrong, then did nothing and left. She pointed out that we shouldn't be expanding the campsites by parking cars on the grass...'yes m'am'....
I’m pretty sure when we were in our 20’s this scene wouldn’t have gone over so well. Stroke then detonated a log through the forest canopy and into the clear blue sky while she was still up on the bridge. The porta potti was also noticed by the DEC. The vendor called Boe and told them he was contacted by the DEC...wondering who ordered it...said they would call Boe..but never did. We noted that of the 6 or 7 rules on the campsite sign, we broke every one of them.

August 2006 - BINGE RECAP

Yet more Binge records were set in Binge 29.
It was the earliest recorded arrival yet of a Binger, (note I said "recorded") as Jerry did show up under the cover of dark Wednesday night, and entirely illegally and securing Site 5. and there was much rejoicing. Thursday was good weather, with an intermittent shower in the afternoon, the only rain of the Binge. The days were basically sunny, not overly warm, but enough to swim.
It was cold at night...damn cold, especially Thursday night when temps dove down into the 40's.
There was more overhead cover on site 5 than ever before, for the rain that never happened, featuring end-to-end long tents from which Cruises abounded, and Tom's massive tarp that covered Tom's kitchen, from which a non-stop feast emerged.
The fireworks were very reminiscent of binges past, with highlights including a Niagara Falls (very cool), Flying Saucers (that was very cool), and gasoline bombs (hey that was cool too), co-engineered by your humble author and a certain "Mr. Weed". Ok so Stroke told us what to do, sue me.
For the first time there was a new addition to the Binge....a Porta Potti !! Quoting Kramer....Who got that?...BUSA?...he's a genius!!!!... Fellow bingers chipped in on the cost and it was a pleasure to do so! No recall on head count, but it was up there. I think it was 28.
The golf tourney was fun, the Albany boys vs Utica/Rochester and it was a dead heat....tied to the end!
-THANK YOU MARCUS-

August 2005 - BINGE RECAP

The 2005 Otter Creek Binge started at precisely 10:05 am on Thursday morning, with your humble author (Marcus) securing Site 5 by spreading his meager provisions across the entire site literally minutes before intruders attempted to seize the site. They were successfully driven away, and there was much rejoicing. Please take note:
Due to the new rules at The Forest, sites are now first come, first served starting on Thursday, there are no more permits. We would do well to re-investigate this situation come next spring.

Shaw and Craigie brought in the cavalry around 11:00 and secured site 6. The three wise men then held the sites all Thursday, with bingers Tom, Stroke, Irby and Weed arriving late Thursday night. Kevin Considine & Scooter were also Thursday arrivals.

Thursday was one of those days – sunny and warm from dawn till dusk. Ambitious Plans of kayaking and biking were completely scrapped within minutes of arriving in favor of sitting in the sun all day in various locations, swilling cold beverages, doing absolutely nothing.

Friday saw some rain, but not much, kayaking, fishing, and a major influx of Bingers. Kevin Considine, Craigie & Scooter were kayaking participants on Friday. Scoot was the first to paddle over trhe Beaver dam.
The golf tourney pitted a mix of Albany/Rochester men(Busa, Gioia, Heady) vs the Utica/LI tribe (Semi, Louie). Needless to say, the Albany boys finished them off unmercifully.

Tom “anti-sloth” was back, manning an incredible food supply and setup. Many thanks to Tom. Sloth returned to the binge after many absences and wryly said:”where did they find You?” Zeta Chi Zeta Alumni donated $300 towards food and equipment. Since this is the largest gathering of Zeta Alumni for the year, it was quite appropriate.
The Creek had moderated from last year’s incredible levels, enabling lots of swimming, and yes, even jousting at the top falls.

Saturday saw a little rain, late day sun, lots of people at the bridge, some gunfire in the not-so-distance,lots of dead trees falling, lots of swashbuckling cruising captains, and considerable time spent on the little-known and incredibly underrated “north beach”, well below the bridge.
The fireworks, as always were exciting, especially the ones aimed at the crowd. Many thanks, Stroke. The last firework was discharged at 5:43 am Sunday morning. Yes, I awoke to bam-ba-bam bam BAM, and mused:
Hmmm…..better take note.

Boe's account of that firework was "ONE HUGE BLAST" - the concussion wave rocking him awake in the tent..with a gasp!..noting the time also..right on target Marcus....ummmm..a garbage bag of special gases??..Thank you Donnie! ..you going to welding school???

The final count this year was approx. 33 Bingers, a possible all-time high.

Thank you Marcus, Craigie and Boe for the recap!!

Binge recap 2004
Yes, it was another stellar Binge, the kind where the “civilians” back home say weeks afterwards “are you talking about that AGAIN??”
This year (ok, last year, so I was a little late with the recap…) was marked with more than one “first” and several Binge Records were set.
Opening the weekend was a jubilant return to Site 5, after a rain-drenched ’03 binge at sites 2-4 the year before. The weather did cooperate virtually all weekend, and the Binge was dubbed, “the year of the minimal rain”.
Binge 27 was also marked by more water flowing down the creek, and with such impressive speed, than at any time in Binge History. No one dared tube, or even swim, in the fast moving, churning rapids all weekend, save for your humble author, who slipped in accidentally above the main falls and was quickly carried downstream by the fast-moving, and nearly bowel-moving, maelstrom that was the Creek last year. If you were not there in the water it would be hard to believe, there was no touching bottom. Fortunately, your humble author was swept into the corner and grabbed the side brush, before being literally swept over the falls and away. Unfortunately, your humble author had to stay there till they were done with photos.
There were also a record 20 gallons of “Captain’s cruise” juice consumed, after which a jubilant Craigie hoisted the cruise cooler and the five time winner and reigning champ of the “First to Puke award” let his fellow Bingers know that yes, the 20 gallon telethon goal had been achieved. Meanwhile on the golf course nearly 44 holes of golf were played during the weekend, spearheaded by Hookman and his crew of golfing 12-steppers. Another Binge record. And they say males peak in their 20’s. sheesh.
Another was the first public reading of a mysterious 30-year-old “water buffalo” letter, by Semi, which sparked an encore performance a short time later, as well as new creative uses for the toothbrush. (see IPO for the “Anal-B toothbrush”) Ticker NASDAQ:ANAL. While the performance was indeed impressive, I think we all agreed that the original author should now come forward and perform for the masses.
Of course, there were rookie mistakes, such as the toting of a female species object to the binge for the second straight year. Silly rookies. A typical rookie/veteran exchange:
Rookie : “ is it cool if my girlfriend stays?”
Veteran : “sure, can we call her “Tuna Tunnel”?
Rookie : “umm, she wouldn’t like that“
Veteran : “ how about “Meat Wallet”?
And so forth. Hopefully, this isn’t the start of a new “trend”, which might require “countermeasures”. Needless to say, the Skull was not pleased, and it rained.
Last and best is what should be known as the Binge Insurgency, led by Balls of the Year award winner Stroke, who lit up the skies brighter than happy hour in Baghdad. Truly reminiscent of the mid-90’s. Many thanks are due there.
Signing off from Binge 27, August 2004.

BINGE 2003 -recap

“This was a GREAT Binge”….I heard many a Binger saying those words as we packed up Sunday. Was a shame to leave the blessed campgrounds as Craigie told us his future plans on returning here in the next few weeks, the lucky bastard….

Of course the weekend started with a little golf. Mikey and Heady challenged the Albany contingent of Boe, Gioia and Motta. It was a really fine match too! A lot of ball busting and good ole abuse on each hole! Since it was 3 against 2, a man was traded every other hole to make things even. It came down to the last hole and the last putt….as Mikey came through for the Utica boys and sank a five footer for the win. Great putt Mikey!…and boy did we hear it for the rest of the weekend!…

A GREAT binge it was!….the weather started off really nice for Friday and Friday night into Saturday. Friday night saw some incredible partying. Five gallons of “The Captain’s Mix” was made and drunk by no more than a handful of Bingers… OOOOooooo that’s gooood…..and the WeedMaster was kind enough to bring an actual “air-gitar” for Boe! The food was really good too and thanks so much to Tom C. for all his work! Saturday morning was a slow one, but Bingers managed to either golf or go fishing to get the cobwebs out. In pure Binge fashion the weather Gods reminded us around dinner time Saturday just how nasty they can be. An absolute sopping wet thunderstorm came pouring down. The mighty tarps held though as experienced Bingers were ready and prepared. The rain continued though into the evening, but it would not stop the explosive display put on by Stroke & Staff! The weather added to the ambiance of the great time everyone was having. Great tunes, great food, and beer…beer…beer….I’ll have another! In the wee hours you could see the casualties, some passed out in chairs, others on the way to their tents, but all had an incredible time.

The countdown to the next binge has started…..hope to see you then!

BINGE 2002 – 25th Anniversary -recap

It was a great weekend to party as the Binge Gods decided to treat their servants well for a change! The falls were a little low but never to be taken for granted as many drunken bingers frolicked in the water. The sites were very nice too, especially on Saturday. I vote for “Ms. Flowers” as Binge Queen 2002.

On Friday the annual golf tourney was held. We finally got there through the construction.....YIKES!.. and a fine match it was. The teams were hybrids – an Albany-Rochester Team with Gioia, Boe and Stroke was soundly taken by the Utica boys – Mikey, Heddy and Don. They were three under par and way too sober....but nice showing by the Utica boys!

Upon arriving at the sacred campgrounds, it was great to hear the running water and those wonderful 4 wheelers! One big surprise was the addition of a generator. Attached to it was a big screen TV and a DVD player!!!….Don is back from PA….Needless to say we watched Stevie Ray, Moody Blues and the Allman Brothers in concert!….not your normal Binge activity! Guess for the 25th Anniversary…it was nice….What was really nice was the great efforts and cooking abilities of Tom Corrigan!…HATS OFF TO TOM!!…thanks so much for your “kitchen” , wonderful skills and hard work. Friday night turned out to be a GREAT party with hot music a great fire and a close relationship with Captain Morgan! The Hookman did show up under impossible odds and we relished his company…..now there is some dedication boys!

Saturday morning came too early as usual, but we had some fishing to do! Stevie brought his canoe and it was launched in the Black River. Stevie and Boe showed their angleing skills by catching two nice small mouth bass. This made for a perfect lunch when we got back to camp….that was tasty!… The weather continued to bless our group as we spent the rest of the day jumping in the falls and collecting wood for the big celebration that night. Stroke had a cool plan and did some great work setting up his show. And WHAT A SHOW!!….the initial jolt and fireball was astounding! Hope we didn’t wake those people down the road…..grin… The rest of the show was outstanding too. Many thanks to Stroke, Shaw and Motta for the entertainment of the year!….Tom again did a great job with dinner as many a binger said….we have come a long way from hot dogs on a stick! – later Mikey had to ceremonisly cook one over the fire on a stick! He had to have a long stick, cause that was one of the hottest campfires that site has ever seen. It was the first time I have ever seen wood still burning on Sunday morning.

This was a memorable binge and one suited for the 25th Anniversary. If anyone is interested in Bingewear – contact me – I do have some t-shirts left over from this Binge. A true keepsake! Over $100 was raised for the Fred Fund with the sale of t-shirts.

Thanks men!

July 2001

The weather Gods were kind this year as real nice weather lasted through most of the BINGE weekend. The Golf Tournament on Friday was fun! The Albany Boys coming out on top of the Utica group. Sorry Mikey...grin...Besides the normal Bingeing...it has to be pointed out that Shaw made a great sacrafice when he donated his nice red and white cooler to the cause. The huge blast awoken even the drunkest Bingers, showering the spectators with styrofoam and plastic. The largest piece being about 1 square inch. Check out the photos from the event and many are looking forward to our 25th Anniversary!..next year...

September 1999

Well...I didn't make it this year. I heard from the Albany boys though that it was a great BINGE!....the weather held up pretty good. If you guys have any photos you wish to share send them to me or email them to me. If you would like to write something up, please do so!..I will publish it here!

I heard that a new location for the fireworks was found and that they were great! The water was ice cold but some of you braved the falls!

A special prayer goes out to our friend Fred. He will be remembered forever and will live on in the spirit of the BINGE!

Keep in touch men. Send me your addresses so I can start a mailing list.

Peace.

September 1998 - Binge 1998

Well this year's binge was outstanding as usual. The weather was very cooperative with a little rain on Friday, but that was it!! The Annual Golf Tourney was a great time! The Albany boys took it to the Utica boys in a very close contest where a match of cards determined the winners! Too bad Semararo!...

Most regulars were there with one BIG exception - Cragie - wimped out!...boy did we miss the blues music...especially Louie when he complained rightfully so when "We are the World" came on and the men just couldn't take anymore!!!!!...it was followed by a little Southern Rock and AC/DC to reestablish a binge atmosphere!!

The Weed kept the fires going strong and Troll did a wonderful job collecting wood and patrolling the bridge! Marcus did a fine job of polishing off some Coronas...those are his in the gallery photo!!...he ended up passing out in a tube! The natives were out in force and some fine female observing was something to keep you sober....Sloath is getting friendly with the local barkeeps and bought rounds for the whole bar!...he returned with five pizzas and was forgiven!!

The fireworks display was toned down this year as expected...Stroke didn't like those vertical striped pajamas..but still provided enough BANG for the Binge..!!!..

Thanks again for everyones help year after year...Mike, Sloath, Stroke and everyone that makes this such a special weekend!

Keep in touch!!!!!!

BRIEF HISTORY

Otter Creek Binge by Jim Shaw.

We just celebrated the 20th annual Binge. We have been bingeing for the past 20 years. We started in 1976 with Brothers Jim Shaw and Rick Klauber (Hooks) and have expanded from about 6 at the first binge to an average of about 25 guys each binge.

We started out drinking all day and all night and having a diet consisting of hotdogs roasted over an open fire for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have gotten wiser (and older) so we now drink all day and most of the night but we also eat well!

Otter Creek has a small natural water falls / water slide which is best to go down after a few beers. We have had many brothers attend the binge over the years and I'll list a few to get started. This is just a start....... Hooks (Rick Klauber), Weed, Mark Wells, Bob Rigney, Busa, Dave Craig, Jeff Kalbach, Randy Soper, Jeff Chaffee, Coolidge etc... Jim Shaw
